We’ll be sharing over the next few weeks a recent project we’re calling Project 300.
Here are some of the milestones of the project:
– Wheelbarrowed 86 tonnes of topsoil
– Laid 300+ rolls of lawn
– Planted lots of plants (too many to count)
– Took only 7 days 🤯

Winter Strength https://tyc.nz/winter-strength/ https://tyc.nz/winter-strength/#respond Sun, 16 Jun 2024 22:05:58 +0000 https://yardcrew.nz/?p=4018 Winter is the perfect time to trim large trees to help with continued growth and strength. We encountered this tree shown in the images on a recent job. The tree was blocking the sun, which is essential in winter for the surrounding homes to have plenty of sunlight, and the limbs and branches were becoming brittle in that they would fall off at any time.

You can imagine that in winter weather, it has the potential for limbs to fall on a house or, worse case, on a child playing in the backyard.

The tree limbs were repurposed into mulch, which will be used in one of our gardens. To be honest, the end result is an ugly duckling. Through spring and summer, it will transform into a lush tree again and return stronger.

Hydroseeding Hawke’s Bay https://tyc.nz/hydroseeding-hawkes-bay/ https://tyc.nz/hydroseeding-hawkes-bay/#respond Wed, 05 Jun 2024 23:38:44 +0000 https://yardcrew.nz/?p=3864 The Advantages of Hydroseeding for Commercial and Civil Projects in New Zealand

In the realm of large-scale land management and development, hydroseeding has emerged as a cornerstone technique, especially in New Zealand’s dynamic environmental and geographical landscape. TYC, a leader in innovative landscaping solutions, is at the forefront of utilising hydroseeding to deliver robust results for commercial and civil projects.

Why Hydroseeding?
Hydroseeding is a highly efficient, cost-effective method that accelerates seeding large areas. It involves spraying a slurry of seeds, mulch, fertilisers, and sometimes, stabilising agents over prepared ground in a uniform layer. This technique is particularly advantageous in areas like Hawke’s Bay, Taupo, Manawatu, and Gisborne, where terrain and climate vary significantly.

1. Rapid Germination and Growth
TYC’s hydroseeding method uses Thermally Refined® wood mulch, which enhances water retention and seed contact with the soil; thus, it speeds up germination and ensures a quicker establishment, which is crucial for timely project completion.

2. Erosion Control
New Zealand’s weather can be unpredictable, posing challenges in erosion management. Hydroseeding offers a practical solution by quickly establishing vegetation to stabilise soil and prevent erosion, especially on slopes and in erosion-prone areas.

3. Cost-Effectiveness
Hydroseeding is more economical than traditional methods such as dry seeding or ready grass, especially over large areas. It requires fewer labour hours and lower material costs, making it ideal for extensive areas.

4. Environmental Sustainability
At TYC, sustainability is a priority. Our hydroseeding uses biodegradable mulch from 100% recycled wood fibres, aligning with New Zealand’s environmental conservation goals. This approach not only minimises the impact on the local ecosystem but also aids in the restoration of natural habitats.

5. Versatility and Adaptability
Hydroseeding is versatile and can
be tailored to various environmental conditions and soil types across New Zealand. TYC specialises in custom seed mixes to cater to specific regional flora and project requirements, ensuring optimal growth and success.

Case Study: Revitalising the Manawatu Plains
A recent project in Manawatu involved hydroseeding over 50 hectares of commercial land in the Manawatu region.
The area, previously prone to high wind erosion, has seen remarkable improvements in soil stability and vegetation density within just a few months of application, showcasing the effectiveness of a tailored hydroseeding approach.

Conclusion
Hydroseeding stands out as a preferred method for large-scale landscaping needs in New Zealand, offering a blend of efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and environmental friendliness. With TYC’s expertise and commitment to quality, commercial and civil projects can achieve sustainable and aesthetically pleasing landscapes.

Thin Edges https://tyc.nz/thin-edges/ https://tyc.nz/thin-edges/#respond Wed, 29 May 2024 00:21:19 +0000 https://yardcrew.nz/?p=3660 Small land spaces are really easy to landscape. Typically one may put stone in or just concrete the area (more along the driveway). In this instant the client wanted an easy to care, garden and plants. You can see the difference and how easy it is on the eye.
The plants are new, once they get some growth in the next 6 months it will different again.

Project Boundary https://tyc.nz/project-boundary/ https://tyc.nz/project-boundary/#respond Mon, 29 Apr 2024 00:52:00 +0000 https://yardcrew.nz/?p=3290 Part 1
This is part 1 of a new project. Like any new job, we want to ensure that no one loses their services (such as internet or power). Dan & Lee work to a plan that includes scoping the area and then we get on with the work.

Part 2
Part 2 of our exciting project takes us deep. Our Kanga brings speed and efficiency to drill; precision is key. While Lee is doing the operating, the team is readying the posts. You could imagine how long it would have taken to dig each hole. It makes it easy when you have awesome equipment.

Part 3
Progress Update: Part 3 of our project, the installation of boundary posts, is now complete. While this wraps up the current phase, we’re looking forward to the next collaboration.

Septic Makeover https://tyc.nz/septic-makeover/ https://tyc.nz/septic-makeover/#respond Tue, 02 Apr 2024 22:40:56 +0000 https://yardcrew.nz/?p=2691 Wood chips provide a protective layer over the septic lines, shielding them from physical damage caused by shifting soil, heavy machinery, or roots from nearby trees and plants. This helps extend the lifespan of the septic system.

Overall, covering underground septic lines with wood chips helps to maintain optimal conditions for the proper functioning and longevity of the septic system. However, it’s essential to use the right type and quantity of wood chips and ensure proper installation to avoid any adverse effects on the system.

Commercial Landscaping https://tyc.nz/commercial-landscaping/ https://tyc.nz/commercial-landscaping/#respond Tue, 02 Apr 2024 21:44:53 +0000 https://yardcrew.nz/?p=2663 We are still part way through this project. What can be noted is the resilient planting design (subtle and meaningful), including specific plant species. By the time families move into the property, our plants and trees will be coming into their own. Our team plays a major role with our experience, from initial concept through to planting and ongoing maintenance.
